34th Annual SF International Comedy Competition

34th Annual SF International Comedy Competition

It’s ON!

You know, comedy lovers from Sacramento are very lucky this year. You have not one, but two opportunities to see the best of the best of today’s stand up comics battle it out for a $25,000 purse. There will be 5 comics at each event doing 15-20 minute sets.

Doug Benson – Best Weed Ever

Doug Benson – Best Weed Ever

In what seems to be most people’s opinion, pot is generally portrayed as a drug that slows things down. It takes you to a place of ease, a place where a slight interest in movies and video games are transformed from mildly interesting entertainment options, into daily Dorito fueled routines. A place where things like jobs, brain cells and responsibilities just seem to fall to the wayside.

We're Getting random with Maria Bamford

A Sacramento Comedy Interview
SacComedy:
I understand you have two pugs. Bert and Blossom. Is that true? If so, what are their names attributed to?
Maria: Yes.  It is true.  Blossom was named for the Power Puff (?) girls by my nephew, George.  Bert was named in order to save him from being called “Colby”- which is not his name at all.

Retro Review – Lily Tomlin and Bobcat Goldthwait

Lily Tomlin has never been purely a stand up comedian. She can be regarded as one of the pioneer’s of the one woman show. With her long time partner Jane Wagner, Tomlin has always presented a wild ensemble of characters since she first entered the public consciousness portraying Edith Ann on Laugh In. This approach is suited perfectly to the stand up comedy record as witnessed on 1975’s Modern Scream, the comedienne’s first attempt at vinyl.

An Interview with Kate Clinton

An Interview with Kate Clinton

A Sacramento Comedy Interview
Thirty years is a long time to work in any industry, especially the entertainment industry. You’ve got so many variables to sift through. Your own endurance, your world view, the world’s view of you, economic booms, recessions, MySpace, Facebook, Kanye West and the occasional  4 to 8 year change political power. Three decades worth of trends and regurgitated trends are enough to make you crazy or just  plain forget that is was a trend in the first place.

World's Greatest Dad with Robin Williams

Opening September 11 at the Crest Theater.

A thoughtful but outrageous comedy from Bobcat Goldthwait, WORLD’S GREATEST DAD is a story about a man that learns the things you want most may not be the things that make you happy, and that being lonely is not necessarily the same as being alone.
