Blame Society for Chad Vadar
Within the vast black hole of the internet, one certainty that’s always…uh…certain, is that anyone with a camera and an the ability to pound the letters y-o-u-t-u-b-e on a keyboard, will eventually take a shot at making the world laugh. Sometimes they’ll hit comedy gold; other times, they’ll just hit someone in the balls or botch a back flip off of a Coke machine.
Mitch Hedberg – Do You Believe In Gosh? by Keith Lowell Jensen
The obvious joke of course, would be to call Mitch Hedberg the Tupac Chakur of comedy, now that he, like the slain rap star, is issuing posthumous recordings. Here at Sacramento Comedy.Com, we have no problem whatsoever with making the obvious joke, so lets just go with that shall we?
Colbert Nation goes for the Gold?
That’s right! As revealed during the historic showlast week, The Colbert Nation is now the primary sponsor of the US Speedskating team. The Colbert Nation is filling the holes that our recession has left, becoming the newest sponsor of the US Speedskating Team, replacing the now defunct Dutch DSB. They may not get their own flag at the Opening Ceremonies, but The Colbert Nation will be represented in Vancouver.
Marcella Arguello – Busy Being Busy
A Sacramento Comedy Interview
Comedian Marcella Arguello is everywhere. It’s somewhat hard to categorize her as a local as she seems to be regularly popping up at all the comedy stops throughout Northern California. So, we’ll just say she’s a “Nor Cal” local. On any given night you might find this 6′ 2″ Modesto native at the Improv in San Jose or the Punch Line in San Francisco.
Bobby Slayton – Never Playing It Safe
A Sacramento Comedy Interview
The comedy world has always been, like most industries, dog eat dog. Well, not only does this week’s featured comic interview have bite, but he also has the bark. Ladies and gentleman…”The Pit Bull of Comedy,” Bobby Slayton.
Murray Langston – Out of the Bag
A Sacramento Comedy Interview
Murray Langston….hmmm… If that name isn’t ringing a bell for you, you might just be, well, normal. There really should be no reason that you would know that name. After all, Langston’s most popular manifestations came by way of disguise.
Okay let’s try again… How ’bout, “The Unknown Comic?” Now I’ve got your attention. That’s right, Murray Langston is the man behind the bag. Well, not so much behind the bag…as much as in the bag…
Jamie Kennedy – Heckler by Bryan Yang
This movie has been out for about a year but I watched it recently on SHOWTIME. This review by Brian Yang is a little “critical” of the movie, yet those who know me know how much I hate hecklers, mean spirited critics and self professed “experts”. Read Brian’s review, but I encourage you to rent the DVD if you are a true comedy fan.
What's New at Comedy Central?
So it looks like Comedy Central will be turning it’s gaze even more “stand-up-ward,” later this year as the Daily Show’s Brit correspondent, John Oliver, will be heading up a new series called “John Oliver & Friends.”

An Interview with Michael Finney – Comedian, Magician, Philanthropist
A Sacramento Comedy Interview
My father always told us, ‘Hard work prevails over everything’” Finney reminisced. “It was very important to my father that we a least achieved a high school education,” “I ended up graduating my junior year, because I hated school so much,” he joked. Over thirty years later, Finney’s hard work has not only prevailed, but it’s sent him around the world, rubbing elbows with some of the most famous comedy and magic acts of the 80′s and 90′s.
Doug Benson – Best Weed Ever
In what seems to be most people’s opinion, pot is generally portrayed as a drug that slows things down. It takes you to a place of ease, a place where a slight interest in movies and video games are transformed from mildly interesting entertainment options, into daily Dorito fueled routines. A place where things like jobs, brain cells and responsibilities just seem to fall to the wayside.
We're Getting random with Maria Bamford
A Sacramento Comedy Interview
SacComedy: I understand you have two pugs. Bert and Blossom. Is that true? If so, what are their names attributed to?
Maria: Yes. It is true. Blossom was named for the Power Puff (?) girls by my nephew, George. Bert was named in order to save him from being called “Colby”- which is not his name at all.
Retro Review – Lily Tomlin and Bobcat Goldthwait
Lily Tomlin has never been purely a stand up comedian. She can be regarded as one of the pioneer’s of the one woman show. With her long time partner Jane Wagner, Tomlin has always presented a wild ensemble of characters since she first entered the public consciousness portraying Edith Ann on Laugh In. This approach is suited perfectly to the stand up comedy record as witnessed on 1975’s Modern Scream, the comedienne’s first attempt at vinyl.
An Interview with Kate Clinton
A Sacramento Comedy Interview
Thirty years is a long time to work in any industry, especially the entertainment industry. You’ve got so many variables to sift through. Your own endurance, your world view, the world’s view of you, economic booms, recessions, MySpace, Facebook, Kanye West and the occasional 4 to 8 year change political power. Three decades worth of trends and regurgitated trends are enough to make you crazy or just plain forget that is was a trend in the first place.
