Comedy Central premiered a documentary called Back From Hell about late comedian Sam Kinison last Tuesday, which is also now out on DVD. (see below)

The film features commentary by popular comedians including Chris Rock, Denis Leary, and Norm MacDonald. Comedian Don Jamieson, who cohosts VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show, says of Sam, “As a comedian, I feel that there have been very few comics who have pushed the boundaries of comedy like Sam and even fewer that bridged the gap between rock ‘n roll and comedy like Sam. As a That Metal Show host, I am proud to support Back From Hell. It’s a must-see tribute to a legendary comic.”

The coolest thing about Kinison was that he was one of us. He sang hard-rock songs with a band including musicians like Slash and Rudy Sarzo, lent his voice to Anthrax’s “I’m the Man,” and even appeared in Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart” video. Jason Bittner of Shadws Fall says, “I love the man, and he was the closest thing to metal that a comedian had ever been. He could have even sang in Nuclear Assault!” Relive Sam’s glory days here.
