Last night at the Comedy Zone in Jacksonville, Florida, comedian Tammy Pescatelli was assaulted by a drunken spectator at her show. However, no arrest was made despite the fact that a room full of witnesses were willing to give police their statements.
Pescatelli said that the drunken woman assaulted her after they exchanged playful banter after Pascatelli caught the woman texting on her phone. After the banter, the woman threw a wine glass at Pescatelli. The wine got all over Pescatelli, but the glass shattered into the wall because she ducked just in time.
Pescatelli stated that her eye was red and swollen after the wine hit it.
LaughSpin reported that Pescatelli stopped the show and requested the the woman be removed. She asked the audience to stay to give the police their statements, and everyone stayed. However the police only took two statements and concluded that they could not make an arrest. The reason: things are expected to happen in a comedy club (ridiculous right?).
Pescatelli followed up at the State Attorney’s office this morning, but was told that the case would most likely not be pursued since the police did not make an arrest, LaughSpin reported. As of today, there has still not been an arrest.
What do you think: are the police right for letting the woman get off scott-free? Or are they minimizing the severity of the incident?
