Former SNL Writer Joe Bodolai Dead at 63, Left Suicide Note on Blog

Former SNL writer and The Kids in the Hall producer, Joe Bodolai, was found dead in a Los Angeles motel he checked into last week. He was 63. A spokesman for the coroner’s office says Bodolai drank a mixture of Gatorade and antifreeze. His death has offically been ruled a suicide.

His latest entry on his blog was posted on December 23 and appeared to be a suicide note. The blog was a list of bullet points with titles that said, “Things I Regret”, “Things I am Proud of”, “Things I Think Will Happen Next Year”, and “Stuff I Would Like to Have Seen In My Life. In his regrets he listed, “My inability to conquer my alcoholism” and “That I am no longer able to withstand any more of life’s pain.”

Bodolai mentioned that writing for SNLand the first draft of Wayne’s World were among the things he was proud of. But perhaps Bodolai’s best contributions came in the form of television comedy in his native Canada. Bodolai produced the 90’s TV series Comics! and The Kids in the Hall.

Dave Foley, a cast member of The Kids in the Hall responded on Twitter to the news by simply saying, “He was a lovely man.”
