With last season’s tearful farewell to Kristen Wiig, the folks over at Saturday Night Live knew it had some very large shoes to fill. Now it’s become an entire closet since Andy Samberg and Abby Elliot have confirmed they will leave and Jason Sudeikis is rumored to be gone as well.
Lorne Michaels has yet to confirm any cast changes or additions for the 39th season, but has lined up some exciting guest hosts. The show will kick off with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane a first time host, for the season premiere with musical guest Frank Ocean.
The second episode will feature host Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who dazzled the SNL audience with an energetic and frantic re-creation of the Make ‘Em Laugh showtune number, and the British band Mumford & Sons. Then, after a short reprieve, episode three is set to feature Daniel Craig and music from Muse.
The season will begin on September 5 on NBC 11:30 ET. Being an election year the show is sure to feature political hilarity. But perhaps the biggest excitement of the night will be who the new additions to casting are, and whether they’re the next Will Farrell or Kristen Wiig.
