Listen to Comedian Bill Burr’s ‘I’ve Had It with Nerds’ Rant

After listening to a segment of comedian Bill Burr’s Monday podcast, I quickly realized, this guy talks about whatever the heck he wants. I mean, why shouldn’t he? He makes a living off of making people laugh, so why not reach into new areas and find something untouched? This week Burr found a topic that made him express some angst against the alternative scene and how it is ruining comedy.
“I resent the alternative comedy scene for one reason only,” he says. “That scene created a situation; it basically distilled all of the horror out of attempting to be a comedian. No heckling, no drunks, no obnoxious behavior, no aggressiveness [from the crowd]; every fucking reason it takes balls to be a comedian; every fucking reason that people wanted to be a comic but never fucking did it, they’ve removed [those things] from the situation and [they’ve] created this fucking comedy womb.”
He mentioned shows like NBC’s The Office and how it contributed to this awkward style of comedy. The characters, in Burr’s opinion, are unbearable to watch and are too much like cartoons.
During his six minute splurge he said, “Can nerds go back to being beaten? For no reason at all? I can’t wait for the backlash on nerds.”
I find that incredibly ironic, since nerds have always been bullied. Television shows like The Big Bang Theory and The Office may be some of the best comedy television sitcoms I have ever watched.
But do go on Burr, you are making some highly logical points.
