Louis C.K. Explains Daniel Tosh Twitter Controversy

Louis C.K. was unintentionally caught up in the Daniel Tosh rape joke controversy last week when he sent a message on Twitter that many saw as support for the comedian. Tosh has been in the hot seat since his show at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles where he made a controversial rape joke.
C.K. appeared on The Daily Show last night to address the situation. According to the comedian he was actually unaware of the controversy surrounding Tosh. He was on vacation in Vermont and taking a break from the Internet, saying he stays away from it while on vacation. When he sent the tweet he was watching Tosh’s Comedy Central series Tosh.o on the hotel TV, thought it was funny and wanted to send him a shout out. The tweet reads, “your show makes me laugh every time I watch it. And you have pretty eyes.” It wasn’t until he got back and was labeled a “rape apologist” on the internet that he realized what was going on.
The joke has been dividing everyone into sides but like any controversial statement made by a comedian it is also creating a dialogue, which C.K. seems to think is a good thing.
“It’s positive, To me, all dialogue is positive… I think you should listen. If someone has the opposite feeling from me, I want to listen so I can add to mine. I don’t want to obliterate theirs with mine.”

The whole thing is blown out of proportion. Every night, not-so-famous comedians make similar remarks across the country but it doesn’t get attention. I think you need to look at the root of it. Does Daniel Tosh REALLY want this woman raped by 5 guys? I don’t know Daniel, and I’m not really a fan, but to that I say NO. I was recently heckled by a Muslim woman and replied “Why don’t you go blow up a bus?” The audience oohed and aahed but eventually laughed, and she shut up. If I was famous, Al Qaeda would put a hit on me. Let it go everyone, and know what you here on the stage is an act, and part of the “act”.
