Seth Meyers Puts “Live With Kelly” Rumors to Rest

The rumors have been put to rest; Seth Meyers will not be joining Live with Kelly as Regis Philbin’s replacement. That is too bad as he would have been a great addition. When asked if he would take the job, Meyers told The Orlando Sun-Sentinel, “No, no, no, no, no.” He then went on to say, “I’m really in love with the job I have. I’m very excited to be going back [to “SNL”] for the election season, which is always fun.” Meyers has been working on the sketch comedy show as head writer and anchor on “Weekly Update” since Tina Fey’s departure in 2006.
For a glimpse into what the Kelly and Seth duo could have been, Meyers will be guest co-hosting the show this week. Meyers name has been brought up as the first choice replacement of Philbin, according to Showbiz 411, and could have worked both shows, despite a step down from lead writer. Other names currently in circulation are singer Josh Groban and former football player and Michael Strahan, though Groban has announced not wanting the gig.
The next Regis Philbin is still to be named and who can blame anyone for getting cold feet. Those are some very large shoes to fill.
