steve carell, comedians, comedy, comedy news, HBO, Showtime, laughing stock Comedian and actor of the recent movie Crazy Stupid Love, has just been cleared to produce a new series on Showtime called “Laughing Stock.” The network’s president of entertainment David Nevins pointed this out at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Thursday.

The show will be a fun interview series set to guest very well known comedians and legends.Comedian David Steinberg will be the lucky interviewer.

Already prepared for season one, some of the big name funny people will be Tina Fey, Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Judd Apatow, Jane Lynch, Sarah Silverman, Don Rickles, Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks and Ellen Degeneres. Even Steve Carell will take time away from his executive producer position for the show to become an interviewee.

When speaking with Showtime, Carell stated, “We have gathered a monumental assortment of comedic legends and their contemporary proteges. It’s enlightening, fascinating but more importantly, it’s funny.”

While commenting on the show Steinberg expressed that, “What makes our show unique is you will see the comedian’s connections to each other and to those who have influenced them in the past. It’s like getting a look at a comedy tree of the last five decades.”

According to Nevins, the show will debut in 2012, possibly even in January!
