Steve Harvey Sheds Tears As He Retires From Stand-Up

steve harvey, comedian, stand-upAlright, look… I am certainly not going to sit here and pretend that I am a huge Steve Harvey fan because that would make me liar. I mean, I remember seeing him on the Original Kings of Comedy special when I was knee high to a grasshopper.

Perhaps, I would have enjoyed it more if I could understand any of what the hell the guys were saying. Although, I am not an avid “Steve-Harvey-fan-boy”, I am an avid “stand-up-comedy-fan-boy”. So, while I may not be able to appreciate Steve Harvey’s material, I can respect the motivation, time, and determination a comedian must have in order command as much respect as he does.

After 27 years of stand up comedy, Steve Harvey teared up in front of a sold out theater a few days ago as he said good-bye to his career as a stand up comic. This is not to say he will be gone forever. In fact, Mr. Harvey will be hosting his own daytime television talk show  which premieres September 4th through NBCUniversal.

Still, retiring from anything that has consumed your life is hard. I can’t ever imagine a time where I will stop performing stand-up, but if that day comes, I can only hope that my goodbye is as heartfelt and met with as much respect as Steve Harvey’s was.
