Tig Notaro Seeks Love with Dating Video While Battling Cancer

tig notaro, comedian, dating, videoThe opening line of a stand-up act isn’t normally used to announce one’s cancer diagnosis, but Tig Notaro isn’t your typical comedian.

Since first announcing the possible news about her breast cancer on her podcast and then officially announcing it onstage, the 41-year-old has been dealing with both a blossoming career and one of the most frightening things in the world. To add to her dismay, she just got out of a relationship and her mother recently passed away. Most people would just give up at this point, but not Notaro.

It’s not surprising to see her post a 30-second long YouTube dating video. It’s black and white, but straight to the point: she’s single, she just moved to New York, and she is looking for someone who’s cool with cancer.

According to NY Times magazine, Notaro tells us more about her life-changing predicament with some lively humor:

“The doctor has prepared me for more weight loss and losing my hair. Dating isn’t the main focus here, but it’s fresh in my mind, because I just got out of a relationship. So I’m just sitting here, thinking, ‘Wow, not only am I single, but I’m about to be four pounds and bald.’”

She’s gotten one response from her video, a fellow comedian (male) who isn’t exactly what she’s looking for.

    She needs to focus on making amends and healing rather than looking for dates and seeking fame. She lied about and harmed those who did her no harm and this is the cosmos at work. Her victims are forgiving people but she needs to come clean . She set out to destroy a talented comedian only based on spite and malice. She got away with it in the court of man but the court of God is another story. She states that this is not Karma or god. She is wrong . That clueless and arrogant attitude will not help with her biblical levels of bad luck.
