Sykes started her career performing in front of the live audience at a talent showcase in Washington, D.C. She was nominated for three Emmy Awards as a performer and a writer on the popular “Chris Rock Show.” In 1999 she won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special for that.
Sykes first stand-up appeared on Comedy Central. Her second stand-up special “Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired,” which aired on HBO, was nominated for a 2007 Primetime Emmy award. Her third stand-up special was nominated for two Primetime Emmy awards. Her sharp tongue and witty comebacks hit home run every time.
